On Tuesday, I had a panic attack.

It was a baby one, so it lasted five minutes, and I didn’t go into a full-on meltdown, as I call it. It sneaked up on me, which can happen with panic disorder. It was still enough to put me out of sorts for the rest of the day, and the exhausted feeling of the adrenaline dissipating from my body. To be fair, it has been an anxiety-inducing week in the UK, so I’m not surprised.

These days, I rarely have panic attacks. I say rare, but usually, one occurs every six months. Way before, they used to be a weekly fixture in my calendar. They were tiring, physically and emotionally. The difference is I talk about them now. For two decades, they were my shameful secret I kept locked away.
