The Long Walk ā film screening with Andrew Alton-Read
Last Thursday, I had the privilege of attending a one-off screening of The Long Walk at Londonās Arthouse. Itās a powerful, award-winning film thatās already earned over 15 awards and featured at 20 festivals. Inspired by a true story, the film is brought to life by Andrew Alton-Read, who not only stars as the adult lead but also served as Executive Producer and co-writer. It follows the harrowing journey of a young boy whose life is upended by trauma, propelling him into the disorienting and often misunderstood world of psychosis.
Like many inspiring individuals who champion and advocate for awareness and action regarding mental health in our society and community, Andrew created the film as a passion project to shine a light on the realities of mental illness.
Hereās what audiences have said:
āHeartbreaking film full of hope.ā
āInspiring and moving.ā
āA powerful film leaving you wanting more.ā
āEveryone should see this, you will learn so much.ā
As Iām lucky enough to consider Andrew both a friend and a fellow radio presenter at CCR FM104.4, he kindly agreed to go for a short walk with me ā see what I did there?! š ā and let me record a quick interview.
In this short chat, Andrew introduces the film, shares the deeply personal story behind it, and talks about why The Long Walk matters so much right now.
